Afghanistan Security Incidents Report (July - September 2024)
Based on a recent study by Afghanistan Security Watch, during the third quarter of this year, anti-Taliban forces, ISKP, and some unidentified groups were responsible for around 124 security incidents across 22 provinces in Afghanistan. The highest number of incidents occurred in Kabul with 49 cases, followed by Herat with 23, Badghis with 11, and Parwan with 6 cases.
The majority of anti-Taliban attacks were carried out by the NRF, responsible for 94 attacks. The NFF followed with 19 attacks, ISKP with 5, and the remaining 5 attacks were conducted by other anti-Taliban groups, including the People’s Sovereignty Front and the Battle Front. Additionally, there were 6 attacks where no group claimed the responsibility.
As per the research, ASW could confirmed 49 incidents that 18 were carried out by the NRF, 17 by the NFF, 5 by ISKP, 2 by the People’s Sovereignty Front, 1 by the National Battle Front, and 6 by unknown groups.
Civilian casualties including 38 deaths and 51 injuries, have increased by around 70% in the third quarter of this year, compared to the second quarter. The primary cause of these casualties was the ISKP group.
For the first time, ISKP claimed responsibility for a security incident in Daikundi province (on the Ghor-Daikundi highway). In the previous quarter, ISKP also claimed its first attack in Bamiyan province.
In the third quarter of this year, only 1 foreign national terrorist affiliated with the Ansarullah Tajikistan group was killed in Kabul.
